So now greater Brisbane is going into 3 day lockdown. I hope the short sharp approach is effective and I know my little family will be ok but I am feeling a bit shakey.

Hope everyone is feeling ok.

In a little win - I was going to be taking DS and a friend to Bounce today. Even though the lockdown doesn't come into effect till 6pm, I decided to cancel. I wasn't expecting a refund (as they're still open) but they gave me 12 months' credit which is great.

They mentioned in the press conference that anyone who had been in Brisbane since 2 January should also isolate, but haven't put that in any press releases or FAQ's. Half of my work colleagues are in that situation and have no idea whether or not they can work tomorrow or should be isolating.

As far as I can tell, Brisbane hasn't been declared a hotspot yet.

I think it's exactly the right approach and while I wouldn't say I'm happy (it's going to throw a lot of peoples' plans into chaos) personally I will be perfectly content to spend a long weekend at home. Whatever it takes to get on top of this, especially before school starts back.

Glad I do my shopping online & it came last night! Reports of my local shops in Springfield area with crazy lines....sigh. Let’s hope the three days do the trick.

I always grocery shop on Saturdays and it's still a permitted reason to leave the house. I don't want to deal with crazy people racing to the shops today so I'm thinking I'll do it tomorrow. With mask and on my own.

If the have come to NSW , Barilaro has said they must self isolate.

Yes, I don't understand why everyone is racing out today! We all should know now that supermarkets will stay open. I've heard that my local Woolies is a nightmare. Having said that, I'm glad we are well stocked for at least a week, so we won't need to venture out at all.

I’ve noticed here in Sydney there’s a bit of a run on things like chicken and mince and the dreaded toilet paper as well.

Yes, I've noticed that they are now putting that detail into news reports, whereas earlier this morning there was nothing.

Thanks everyone for the support. I'm now going to force myself to put the phone down, stop reading news (can't even face the US news) and find something else to do!

The supermarkets where I live are crazy this morning. I was in a self serve checkout that was about 30 people deep by 9:30am. Lines were similar for the express lane and manned lanes. We’re about to have 3 days of lock down (except for essential reasons) from 6pm tonight. What puzzles me though is why people need to take nearly everyone in their family with them to get supplies? There were couples, there were lots of couples with kids so it’s not a case of only one parent being home with children under 12 due to school holidays not having a choice in taking the kids with them.

I hope the short, swift lockdown will be effective and our numbers of positive cases through local transmission are small, even if it is the UK variant. I’ve already had to re-schedule a school uniform booking which was for Monday to organise uniforms for DS. Hairdresser has rescheduled what was to be an appointment tomorrow to next Wednesday. Thankfully my kids don’t have any appointments with specialists until early February.

Be safe, be well Qld.

Yeah I will never understand people who bring the whole tribe along to the shops, under these circumstances. I can appreciate that in some families there are legit reasons, but I doubt there’s many that legitimately NEED to bring the whole fam.

Yes I was whinging about that in our resort town. Mum and dad and the kids... nope kids and one adult stay home.

The group of girlfriends ALL at the shops for cheese and wine? Nope not needed.

Are people mask wearing in brisbane while out panic buying? Always concerns me that lockdowns and mad dash to the shops would cause a spike.

I dont understand why they are legally required to give advance warning?

Shops are still open.

Shut everything for an hour. Tell everyone to go home. Then open up to restricted movements.

One person (unless for caring reasons) allowed out to shops)

I am very supportive of the measures the Qld Govt is putting in to prevent a big outbreak.

But... My dad is terminally ill in hospital 1.5 aways away from me and going downhill fast. :( I won't be able to visit him now. His hospital (in Toowoomba) is doing a "no visitors" rule anyway from 6pm tonight, despite not being in the greater brisbane area.

I am sad that his last year of life has been spent with travel restrictions and now that he is quite sick and about to die (he has mesothelioma) and no-one can visit him. :( He can't hear well, so phone calls not great and he is useless with technology.

So that's all crap.
