Andrew Laming ADHD

So Andrew Laming is saying he’s just been diagnosed with ADHD which apparently explains his abuse of women.

No, mate, having ADHD doesn’t make you a dickhead, it just makes you a dickhead who happens to have ADHD.

Also, as a medical professional, he apparently had no idea it was something that affected adults... jeeezus.

WTF? No. Just no no no no no and fucking no.

ADHD doesn't "make" you abusive to women. You did that mate. You made that choice. You just happen to also have ADHD.

Yah let's yet again stigmatize it all.

So he is no longer an a-hole that’s hard to work with, he is a misdiagnosed, misunderstood, genius?

That’s what I got from that article. How appalling.

Didn’t someone else diagnose his way out of accusations not long ago? Is this the new way the liberal party keep people on the books?

He's a medical professional?! What kind? (I did click on the article but there's a Herald Scum paywall).

GP apparently. Just fancy going to him for help with women’s health issues.

What, so kids with ADHD just sort of shed it once they’re old enough to drink? Or is it that you can have ADHD or you can vote, but you can’t have both?

What an absolute pillock.

I know a couple of adult men with ADHD. They are, tbh, pretty selfish, because they're quite chaotic, disorganised people, and are generally always late, time-blind, don't consider other people's needs very well, and for the two guys I'm thinking of, drink WAY too much.

They're not Lamo-level arseholes though. They're nice guys/good people who you can't rely upon to be on time without a lot of extra work, but it's not a condition that makes you a terrible person.

Has he has his head buried in the sand for the past few decades or something?

It’s been known for years that ADHD affects adults, my brother was diagnosed over 30 years ago & mum was told then it would be with him for life, just most adults have developed coping skills to deal with the effects.

Even then, adhd is not an excuse.

Adhd hey?

Thought that wasn’t a disability.

Maybe we can get them to include it the ndis if enough of the assholes are diagnosed and blaming it.

He's actually an ophthalmologist but is also trained as an obs/gyny. Wouldn't he be great at that!

Just stigmatise a whole group of people with genuine needs to give yourself an excuse for being an ahole.

Can't do that if they are going to cut the NDIS by $700 Million.

My guess is that this is the intersection of ADHD and the socialisation of males to centre themselves and take up space.

As a woman with ADHD, I struggle with timeliness and forgetfulness a lot, but being socialised to not put others out means I work damn hard to minimise impact on others, and beat myself up a lot when I do.

Also, Laming is extremely wrong, and him using his ADHD diagnosis this way is harmful.

Dr Laming insists he’s not looking for a “free pass” for his behaviour

Dr Laming remains largely unrepentant over a string of scandals and accusations over his social media use

Yeah, it's not the ADHD that's the problem here

By the govt standards, ADHD doesn't impact daily life and isn't classed as a disability. Cunty McCunt needs to own his shit behaviour.

Exactly the sort of self justifying BS they will publish to support their fellow travellers

Evenstar that is one of the best adhd things I’ve read. It’s like my brain on a paper with all the side tracks even. And forgetting to add the other bracket) because where was I?

But yeah. Still doesn’t make you a misogynistic dickwad who makes racist ableist remarks and stalks people via social media b

The words "physician heal thyself" spring to mind.

Must have been a really crappy doctor, surrounded by other really crappy health professionals if this slipped under the radar until the police got involved.

She wrote it (and it's the most ADHD thing I've ever read, I loved it)

The hyperfixiation is something DS's fantastic school still stumbles with. He gets sent to timeout for not listening. I'm like Did he hear you? You need to physically touch him some times to get his attention. He's not ignoring you on purpose.

Did anyone watch 7:30 tonight?

I can’t even. Pushing a 19 year old he randomly came across in a restaurant to friend him of Facebook was just ONE of the incidents they reported on.....

Absolutely. It is the same when people say 'well they are autistic'.
