Conharrymum
Hi GurusI am new to IVF, having had two previous pregnancies' without IVF in my 20's I am now contemplating IVF with my new partner at the age of 41.We haven't been trying long but are aware IVF is an option that we should pursue quickly due to our age and also as my partner has a low sperm count I have googled but the choice is overwhelming, I also am concerned about the price so have been looking at affordable IVF options as I don't have private health insurance that will cover IVF. I am a loss of where to start or how to start and hoping I could be given some guidanceThx
Rosie28
Most PHI doesn’t cover much for IVF anyway- it’ll usually cover the admission for egg collection, and maybe some of the medication if you have pharmacy cover. At 41 I’d most as fast as possible and not spend too much time investigating- to the GP for a chat and some initial tests then off to a fertility specialist. Froyo
Everything Rosie said. Most major cities have reduced cost IVF clinics which would be a good place to start. I'd get referred ASAP.
Greenbean
Where are you based? We may be able to give you recommendations based on your city. As others have said there are some bulk billing clinics.
Conharrymum
Thanks for the insightLocated in Western Sydney if that helps for recommendations
Wolf87
Not too local but RPA fertility unit is good, they work in partnership with Genea. They don’t do PGD. It was $1000 for a stim cycle last time I cycled in August last year. The only problem could be wait times - once you get your foot in the door it moves pretty quickly, but not sure what the initial wait would be at the minute. Let me know if you have any questions about them specifically. Good luck.
Ozgirl
I concieved my son with westmead. And happy to recommend a specific FS who works with them. Go to your GP now and say you have been trying for 6mths and it hasnt happened. Try to avoid doing any sort of testing as the Dr's in the clinic like to use their own labs and so you will waste time doing it twice. But welcome, and im sorry you here with us. nomviv
I saw a Doctor at Westmead and did 6 rounds of IVF with them and it was very affordable through the public system. For complex reasons I won’t go into here we had to transfer our embryos to Monash IVF (Parramatta) and I am finding the level of care much more intimate compared with Westmead but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s worth the additional costs involved. My Doctor at Monash is fantastic but in very high demand. Edited April 13, 2021 by JustBeige Site rules state to not name individual doctors. Also please dont question Mod decisions in the thread, please PM. Thank you. JB
ABabyPlease
I was lucky enough to conceive naturally at 41, first pregnancy, and the month before ivf was due to start. Check out the sperm meets egg plan. A friend, also aged over 40, consulted a FS who used ultrasound to advise when she was ovulating and this worked for her to conceive naturally. I hope this is helpful?
Ozgirl
Hi everyone, Mod hat on. We really need to avoid naming specific Doctor recomendations.Naming clinics is fine. but please request PMs for specific Doctor names.
nomviv
I wasn’t recommending any doctor - I was just saying who I saw and my experience.
Fruitmincepies
I wasn’t recommending any doctor - I was just saying who I saw and my experience. What we mean is you can say “I had a really great experience at Bundlefullofjoy Clinic, PM me if you want the name of the caring and supportive doctor I saw”. We prefer to have no doctors publicly named, recommended or not. Hope that’s clear, PM me or Ozgirl if you have any other questions about this sort of thing. Ozgirl
I wasn’t recommending any doctor - I was just saying who I saw and my experience. Totally get it. But as FMP said we just need to avoid naming Doctors at all.
