We are having a bbq on Easter weekend and while we have the meat and bbq under control I’m struggling to think of what else to serve. So please tell me what are your go to dishes for serving at BBQs?

These are what first come to mind for me : Green salad, roast pumpkin & spinach salad, potato bake and Chang's noodle salad. Lots of crusty bread.

I love a quinoa salad with a bbq - this is similar to the one I make, but I don't include the mint, add spring onions, kalamata olives and crumbled feta. For the dressing, I just use plain extra virgin olive oil and add the lemon juice and a teaspoon of dijon mustard. It's my all-time favourite salad!

My kids wouldn't think a bbq was complete without a simple potato salad and bread.

Israeli salad

Loaded hummus type thingo - I do one that’s a creamy hummus spooned onto a platter and spread out a into a thin layer, topped with diced cherry tomatoes, finely chopped red onion, paprika roasted cauliflower (still warm), roughly chopped parsley and a yoghurt dressing on top.

For greens ;)

Many different variations of this same recipe. All delicious.

A variation of this is a family recipe. Many people have never tried a salad like this but it's the best. So refreshing and flavourful.

As long as you have pasta, pesto, cream or greek yoghurt you can add anything to it and it's great. I've added bacon, chicken, corn, avocado, cherry tomatoes, baked ham. Anything generally works!

We're simple lol, potato bake, coleslaw, nibbles plate (chopped carrot, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, biscuits, dip etc), bread for snags/ hamburgers, apple and celery salad (literally just diced apple, celery and mayo).

Hills Mum Bec

For BBQs I tend to do a potato bake, a pumpkin, rocket, chickpea & feta salad and then some kind of bean/corn type salad. Lot's of crusty bread and I will also usually do a chunky mushroom sauce.

LemonMyrtle

Bread and or breadstick sliced

Salads - green leafy/Greek, potato, pasta or rice

Side dish - fried rice, BBQ corn, BBQ veg sticks, cous cous

Dessert - anything, but something cold is good, cheesecake, jelly, pavlova.

BBQ'd corn, and big flat mushies.

Potatoes either roasted or as salad.

Coleslaw in a vinegarette.

Roasted beetroot, pumpkin, feta, green leaves (spinach or rocket or kale) salad with whatever added in - usually nuts of some description or olives or tomatoes etc.

Lentil salad with feta, pomegranates and mint is nice too.

And plain salad veggies cut up separately for the children who don't eat dressings nor mixed in food.

Dessert is low on the list of priorities, usually everyone is too full. Though kids will ask for marshmallows or chips.

A good starter is always veg, crackers with hummus and if we haven't put feta in salads (though who am I kidding, even if we have lol) there's a super delish lemon feta dip that gets devoured by any feta lover around.
