Has anyone had issues being prescribed melatonin?

GP refused based on me but being under 18 or over 55.

Pharmacist has no idea why I've not been given a script.

Is it worth me seeing another Dr?

That’s a bit odd, I had no problem getting a script for Circaden. My wonderful GP recommended it after she found out I had trouble sleeping.

Get another GP.

I had no issues having it prescribed, I’d see another dr. Or just order it online like I do for a tiny percentage of the prescription price 😬

Yep order online from iherb.

My mum recently had a chat to the pharmacist about it and you need to take it long term to take affect (ie over a month) also know that it can mess with your natural cycles (ie affect ovulation)

Also there is two types, long acting or short acting (nothing to do with the paragraph above about taking it long term)

Short acting helps you fall asleep, long acting helps you stay asleep.

Ummm why? Better to try first than a sleeping tablet! You can just order off iHerb ( Naturol seems to be one brand that actually has the active ingredient tested to be correct). Get a bottle of 1mg tablets and start with 2 mg ( that's what I and my DS was prescribed) . The prescription stuff is around $ 37 for 30 tablets. Iherb is $ 11 for 100.

Thanks everyone.

I'll go to another Dr tomorrow if I can get in.

I'll probably order online at some point but I'd like to try it out scripted first 😏

Australia is so werid, they will only prescribe 2mg, no other dose is possible.

I buy 10mg off iherb and cut into 5mg doses.

I have tried 5mg ( it's a bit too much and makes me tired the next day) but seems to find 3mg works best for me. I don't know why, but prescription Circadian has a funny smell. The 3 iHerb brands ( including Naturol) don't smell like that.

Do you know if it was short or long acting?

I need help getting to sleep and staying asleep.

2mg of val1um last night di nothing for me. I tossed and turned most of the night.

I cant take melatonin whilst doing a natural IVF cycle.

I am taking long acting as I go to sleep quite easy, but wake up at 2-3am and cannot get back to sleep. Sometimes if I am very stressed it doesn't work, but I have a hardcore anti anxiety use sparingly med as backup, but it's ultra drowsy the next day.

Could you take valerian? I did find Blackmores 1000mg version helpful, infact I actually take a melatonin/ valerian mix now. However some people don't have a good reaction to valerian.

I take a short acting and long acting one. That seems to work for me. Dr was very reluctant to Rx 2mg for me. Paed happily Rx 3mg for the kids though. I now iHerb.

My daughter takes it, I get 5mg slow release from iHerb. When I got repeat script for the very expensive compound stuff they GP told me to get it of iHerb! I buy 3 bottles a time.

Personally I can't have it as it gives me nightmares.

Only way I sleep is alcohol or Stilnox. I literally don't sleep without something, I decided to cut down on drinking (like massively) and had one small drink and restavit. Did nothing but my anxiety eased even though I was awake all night lol.

I'm off to GP to get a longer term medication than stilnox because even that's not working properly now.

I wish melatonin worked for me

yTT, sero quel is awesome! (Space for bloody spam filter)

DD reacted badly to it, she got very very angry, she lasted a week before I pulled it. But I do have some... I'll talk to the GP. Currently I'm on no meds other than Stilnox.

Oh interesting - as an anti psychotic I am surprised by that reaction. Seems like its supposed to do the opposite of that! But then phenergan....

Yeah psychiatrist said the same... but he was happy to listen to me. Just used olanzapine to bring DD down and increase risperidone to dose she was on prior to reducing med :( OMG the munchies :( though prior to risperidone she had an eating disorder so I should be happy...

Is it tablets that you mean are only in 2mg doses in Australia? My child gets 5mg melatonin troche prescribed and made. They take 1/2 square (so 2.5 mg). Specialists I’ve spoken to said the compounded melatonin is absorbed more quickly than tablets, which is useful too.

Interesting, my chemist (who make progesterone trouche for me) told me that only 2mg is available. Didnt suggest trouche at all.

So I can't get an appointment with another Dr for minimum a week🤦‍♀️

Are there particularly reliable places to order online? What are the wait times like?

I've had a Google for iherb and there's an Australian site, can I use that one or do I need to use a non Aus one? Sorry for all the questions, my brain has given up on life.
