amdirel
Just curious as the receptionist made a little comment when I booked an appointment just then.I mean how often are *you* there at the GP- including for yourself and bringing kids in for appointments. I have 3 kids, 2 with chronic conditions that require referrals, EPC's, and scripts. I'm the only parent that takes them. I also need scripts for myself. So yes I feel like I'm there (or telehealth due to covid) a lot. But not unnecessarily so IMO.I seem to go through periods of not going at all for a couple of months, to going a few times within a month. In fact I just checked my diary and if I've written down all my appointments this year so far, I've only been twice. And 2 appointments coming up. I'm sure she didn't mean anything bad by it, but now I'm overthinking it!
Seayork2002
It depends, some times every few weeks sometimes ages. I have probably had a comment before but I just assume it is making conversation rather than an actual medical opinion
Lurker
She probably meant it in a sympathetic way, like oh you poor thing, back again. I'm there as often as needed; sometimes that's 6 months between visits and sometime it's twice in a week.
MyOMy
I have to get a certificate for work every 4 weeks, other than that maybe once or twice a year. We are all fairly healthy touch wood.I’m sad telehealth is ending this week as it’s so much easier for simple things like certificates. I hate having to physically go in. Very short sighted of the government.
Turbulent
Between me and the kids, usually at least once a month sometimes twice a week.
lozoodle
Not that much, maybe 2-3 times a year between the kids and I. I have only been for ME once in the last 18 months which was to get drops for an ear infection. Aside from that, DD2 had to go to the ER to get stitches recently, but nothing sickness wise for us since before COVID times. Edited to add - we don't have any chronic illnesses etc.
Tinsel
Usually I'm at the GP for myself once every six months for monitoring and new scripts. Although when my GP retired last year, my new GP wanted a few tests done and a change of meds so I was seeing her every couple of weeks for 2 months. When DD was little, about once per year. During high school every couple of years, perhaps.
MsLaurie
Currently, not often. But when now-miss-two was a bub I probably should have had my own comfy chair in the waiting room.I had a breast abscess which required daily then every second day appointments for two weeks (thankfully bulk-billed after the first one), plus her baby immunisations, a cold or two for both of us, the usual post-birth check up, referrals to various specialists for me and for miss-then-four, implanon for me... ugh. Expensive couple of months!!
mandelbrot
All the receptionists recognise me even when I'm wearing a mask, so often enough! I've had a couple of periods where I've gone once a week for months, although now we can do telehealth it's much better.
LemonMyrtle
I avoid it as much as I can, and even then I’m still there maybe 4-6 times a year, mostly with the kids. And mostly for referrals and letters for school.
squeekums-the-elf
for me, ive been once in last almost decade, that was only other week for some pain killers, a week after the pain first starteddd was every few months in cooler times but now her asthma is good and almost non existent, very rarely too
VeritasVinumArte
I have been to the GP 5 times so far this year (for myself and kids). That is not counting the 4 specialist appointments and my overnight in the ED with kidney stones either. Some times it can feel like I am there a few times a week, other times it can be months between seeing the GP. TheGreenSheep
Recent past once or twice a year. When the kids were little, weekly, sometimes twice a week when they were in daycare and caught everything going around and then passed it onto DH and I. Fun times!
amdirel
That is not counting the 4 specialist appointments and my overnight in the ED with kidney stones either. Yes, actually, looking at other medical appointments, kids have had 5 specialist appointments, and 4 allied health. And orthodontist. No private health. No wonder I'm broke all the time lol. Oh well it does make me hit the safety net quite early every year!
nightmarish
At least every 28 days, often more unfortunately. I've got some chronic health issues and injuries going on, and the government doesn't allow repeats on some of my meds. It's a nuisance.
pelagic
As rarely as possible. And it absolutely shits me to tears if they question my need for a medical certificate. I say 'look at my attendance here. Does it look like I come here begging for ways to get out of work?"
VeritasVinumArte
@admirel yes I haven’t counted orthodontist, physio etceither
s_mdn v2.0
Feels like way too often. I hate hate the current practice of 2-3 script repeats max - just give me the damn 12 months, I can't get high on any of these meds anyway lol.It wastes a lot of time and my money. Though I guess it's good that current GP actually wants things investigated properly instead of waving me away, and I have to return for exact same thing. I don't think it's cool receptionist commented, but depending on tone, I'd probably shrug it off as misguided attempt at conversation. CrankyM
2-4 times a year. Basically for scripts and maybe the odd issue. I haven't actually taken the kid for aaaaggggess. But they have a pediatrician they see every 3-6 months. And because it's through the hospital clinic no ongoing referrals needed. Because it's a giant pain to go and have your GP basically just change the date on a letter and pay $90 for the privilege.
pure shores
For me it is just once a year for my flu vaccination (I've never had the flu so want to avoid it). For the kids it's also only for vaccinations. DS2 has eczema and will go to the doctors if we need to get a new script for his cream. This is happening less and less as he gets older. We are rarely sick which comes down to genes and luck. Both DSs didn't get any of the things that usually go around when they were in daycare. No gastro, hand/foot and mouth etc. The worst was a runny nose.
ClaudiaCosette
Between me and my kids, it's fairly often - at least every couple of weeks. I'm on a couple of medications and am always needing repeat scripts, and my two kids with health issues are often needing new referrals done. Apart from those - for actual illnesses, I mean - it's much less often. I'm so glad we now have a bulk-billing GP in our suburb. I didn't realise telehealth is ending. That has made things so much easier, getting the scripts sent directly to the chemist, and the referrals straight to the specialists, rather than dragging the kids down there with me. It will be annoying having to go down in person again.
MissHLH
Almost weekly at the moment. We have been really unlucky with illness plus mental health check ins and vaccinations. The receptionist recognises my voice on the phone. Even this morning when I could barely speak!
acidulous osprey
It's an unusual week where we don't have an appointment with the GP or allied health or specialists.
