pelagic
I generally review books on Good Reads after reading. Lately I am so turned off by the droves of readers reviewing writing with totally subjective negative reviews. I guess it’s part of cancel culture, but I’m so sick of reading snarky comments about a book being any of the ists and then giving it one star even if the book is actually okay (I.e Rosie Project). The reviewers just can’t be taken seriously - they’re too obsessed with perfection. Or making their followers snigger.
banyan
Young adult fiction can be like that.
pelagic
YA is particularly bad. I think the reviewers think their little diatribes are better than the books, but they’re not and when they finally write a book they’ll find that out. I saw a review for The Stand that gave the story 1 star for being sexist, ableist. I don’t disagree with that assessment but it doesn’t negate the entire story. Just makes me think the reviewer is very one note.
