STBG 2
It is heart warming to see the crowds of people who went to get vaccinated today. I was nervous that the MSM fear machine would have resulted in a reluctance.I am still at odds with some people 50 and above who want to wait until they see how many people grow an extra head.As usual there will be the free loaders willing for others to put themselves up for the benefit of the community while they ride on the coattails of the vaccinated. DaLittleEd
Apparently you can't get the AZ jab if you've had an allergic reaction to penic.illin, as my mum found out today. Well, that would rule me out if I wasn't under 50 anyway. There was one vaccine, I think the initial swine flu (?) one the Drs were very hesitant about giving me and I had to have extra observation, as apparently it had a small amount of an antibiotic mixed in (it wasn't pen.icillin but something similar maybe). Bornagirl
Apparently you can't get the AZ jab if you've had an allergic reaction to penic.illin, as my mum found out today. I was at a hub yesterday, and I asked what would happen if I had had an allergic reaction to anything. She said that they wanted everyone like that to be vaccinated at a hospital/doctor (I can't quite remember the words she used).I assume they were only doing AZ where I was, so whether it would be the same answer for Pfizer at that place, I don't know. BKK
I hope the supplies to doctors clinics start to increase. It makes sense that everyone whom is eligible gets offered the vaccine when they go to see their doctor for their checkups. Our local doctors clinic is not offering the vaccine
Silverstreak
I read on one of the threads recently that the medical criteria had been widened to allow more people to be vaccinated, but I can't find it.Does anyone have a link? I know my adult daughter with chronic, moderate asthma would have it in a shot if she could, but previously she didn't qualify. I'm in the same situation (except I also have another lung condition) and I was told to bring in a report from my GP and a letter from my specialist on the day. So maybe see if she can be booked in if she brings some supporting documentation? I had a chat to the receptionist about any requirements before booking my appointment. Good luck xo

Apparently the antibiotic mentioned is a 'Forbidden 303' word I’m allergic to the forbidden word antibiotic starting with P and I had the AZ. My GP said if you have had an allergic reaction to vaccines previously, you have to have it done in hospital. Otherwise, other allergies you just stay for 30 mins after, instead of 15 mins. This is what the TGA info said as well.

LemonMyrtle
Lack of QR code usage in Victoria is in the spotlight lately.I still don’t know why retail stores aren’t required to have a check in QR code on display. Such a simple thing to mandate. My local shops doesn’t have hardly any. Not even one in the food court. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-07/victoria-moves-to-single-qr-code-system-compliance-concerns/100121552
Kiwi Bicycle
My local Coles put a Service Vic one up this week, after almost a year of it being in existence. It was stuck on the hand santiser station, perfect! But you are right. Some places are good ( Burwood One has a QR code on each table in the food court), but the rest are so poor. I still have my,diary going.
Bornagirl
Agree with everything that article says, after my travels. At least I've seen a significant increase in the Services Vic app being used here.
Willa May
Coming out of the woodwork to state that I work in retail, the shop I work in has remained open through every lockdown and it frustrates me that we don't have a QR code check in. The company I work for is fantastic at following rules, but not suggestions. It will need to be mandatory before we get a code sadly. Interestingly enough, until yesterday not one single customer has mentioned it to me though. I have a feeling even if we had a code most would bypass it. That's why it's an advantage having it everywhere, and putting it on to business to make sure people do it.Obviously as a tourist I was visiting far more places than I normally would, and just expected it everywhere. That, along with frequent reminders from shops, meant that you just don't think too much about it, you just do it.I suspect most Victorians don't really realise how much better it is in other states, and when Gladys says 'because contact tracing ...' they maybe thing yeah yeah state rivalries again. It's true though, but it's just as true of WA and NT in my experience.Kudos for making the suggestion.
Bornagirl
I've grizzled enough about Victoria's poor checkins, but aren't we doing amazingly well with testing, and covid shots? In the last week we've done 25% of the nation's testing, and given we've not had an issue, that's amazing. We are also light years ahead with the Covid shots.
MsLaurie
I think Victorians despite being VERY keen on Donut Days are a lot more wary of the likelihood of outbreaks, and are less willing to wait for vaccination than perhaps areas which have had less exposure. Bornagirl
I think Victorians despite being VERY keen on Donut Days are a lot more wary of the likelihood of outbreaks, and are less willing to wait for vaccination than perhaps areas which have had less exposure. They have to be available though, people in NSW haven't had that opportunity yet. The hub I went to was thronging with people, the vast majority of whom looked under 70, and we were through fairly quickly, so if they're all like that ...Testing hasn't always been great either, but seems to be superb these recent weeks. You'd think Vics would be therefore also more keen to use QR codes - or the businesses insist on them, for their own benefit. My understanding is that the last brief lockdown was (largely) implemented because the cafe at T4 had hopeless contact tracing, and therefore it was going to take them days to track down everyone who'd been in the cafe via the airline records. No new cases identified today, and I’d expect we’ll see tests in the 20-30k totals reported tomorrow given the queues at testing centres.Always a risk, but it’s great to see that NZ is the only jurisdiction which has implemented any sort of incoming ban, and even then only for 24 hours. BKK
The more people whom get vaccinated, means the safer the community is a a whole. I am convinced that we will see more lockdowns during winter and yes I am concerned that the Indian variant will get into society. Our hotel quarantine has has another breach. Let me fix it for you all. Big 4 caravan parks in the country not high rise hotel buildings, have beautiful cabins which are all separated and have full amenities. Let’s book these out for hotel quarantine and let those people in quarantine enjoy their time but also be independent ie cooking & cleaning. No shared ventilation. You could put security cameras facing all the doors which could be watched in a central area. Staff can stay onsite. Security could be given golf buggies to patrol.Simple. All ready built.
LemonMyrtle
Just had my first ever covid test. It was the best test ever. Drive through, busy, but not much of a wait. No brain scrape. Too easy. An impressive amount of people getting tested on Mother’s Day morning. It was busy for a small local testing site. Good work everyone!
