Who's getting the vaccine?

What state are you in @BKK ? Would he tolerate waiting in line at a mass vax centre, or does he need a quieter environment?

I’m in Victoria but the issue seems to be he’s 47. He’s a 1B

I’m trying to book my non verbal autistic brother in to get his vaccine. No one else has managed to do this.

Can you book online. My link wasn’t working and the call centre asked to speak to him but hello I’m calling as he can’t talk.

Very very frustrating especially when it’s vital that people like him are vaccinated

End rant.

You can book online with the Hot Doc link to the GP places.

https://www.hotdoc.com.au/

Scroll down and there's a finder for you postcode.

It doesn't tell you when the next one is for each clinic, but I've scrolled through those near me, and although most don't have anything for several weeks now the over 50s can book, there are odd cancellations here and there in the coming week.

Good luck.

I rang my GP today and they told me to ring back on the 17th. Uptake will be low in NSW until you can get jabbed near to home.

Can you do an online Hotdoc appointment for the 17th? That's what I did (Vic though), but then I rang our 1800 number at 8:30 on Monday and got a hub appointment for that afternoon, so was able to cancel it.

So with the clots, according to the article below, there has been 11 cases from 1.4 million AZ doses given, which is a similar rate to that reported overseas.

Of the eleven, one woman sadly passed away, five were hospitalized and four of those have already been discharged. The fifth person still in hospital is doing well. They are still investigating the death.

Most of the cases had underlying health problems but no relationship seen yet with other clotting disorders.

Vaccination hub is opening on Monday 10th at the Olympic Park for group 1b - Pfizer vaccination. It will be open to everyone else on 24 May where AZ will also be offered. I've booked myself in for May 28 and I'm down to have Pfizer.

My GP surgery's website still won't let you book yet if you are under 70.

However I was in yesterday for a consultation with the GP and he said they were starting under 50s next week, so I booked myself in at the reception for the 12th.

Just popping in to add that I got my first dose (Pfizer) last weekend. I was originally booked in for AZ but the GP I went to said she would prefer I got Pfizer because of my age (31) and as a healthcare worker I was eligible, so trotted off to Monash. The process could not have been more seamless, I was in and out in 25 minutes (including the 15 minute post-jab observation), and I honestly did not feel even a sting - I actually didn't believe I had been jabbed yet until I saw the tiny spot of blood on the tissue! No side effects apart from a barely-noticeable sore arm the next day.

I was surprised at how overcome I was emotionally, I was actually quite teary. Looking at this innocuous syringe, thinking how lucky we are to have access to vaccines; that people around the world both now and throughout history would have gone to enormous lengths to get their hands on such things to keep themselves and their families safe. I said as such to the vaccinator and thanked him for his hard work; he said his family all reside in India and he would have given anything to be able to get a vaccine to them.

So the dog is now a reformed anti vaxxer? And now some sort of Antifa member? (Even though Antifa doesn’t seem to be an actual thing, more a collective term for a 100 movements)

I just don’t get that comic. Never have, Never will. I don’t think that particular strip is helping the vaccine cause.

Thank you to all of those whom have been vaccinated or are booked in to be.

Remember it’s not just you that you are protecting but all of the community.

I think the comic is saying it’s okay to be a little apprehensive BUT getting the vax is the right call and he’s going to do it.

“British health officials say the risk from COVID-19 far exceeds any risk from the AstraZeneca vaccine for the vast majority of people, but the calculation is "more finely balanced" for younger groups, who tend not to suffer serious illness from coronavirus infections.

Up to April 28, Britain's medicines regulator had received 242 reports of blood clots accompanied by low platelet count in people who had received the AstraZeneca vaccine, out of 28.5 million doses given. There were 49 deaths.

The AstraZeneca vaccine, which is cheaper and easier to store than Pfizer or Moderna, is critical to global immunisation campaigns. It is a pillar of the UN-backed program known as COVAX that aims to get vaccines to some of the world's poorest countries”

I had my Pfizer jab just now. The worst of it was finding a seat on the train on the way home! More places in Melbourne are opening up online bookings for vaccinations, and include Pfizer for 1b.

I booked online with Barwon Health. They release appointments incrementally so you might need to check back regularly.

That's a bit far for me. I am in the outer east. STBG do you know of anywhere doing Pfizer out this way?

sorry I this has been mentioned before but if you install the Hotdoc app, it has a 'book covid vax'.

It helps you find one nearby.

You might have luck with Austin SmilingGirl - my friend who is a GP booked her Pfizer there by calling.

Just tried to book at the Austin and it says it is an AZ vax community clinic. Perhaps GPs can book there but non-GP people who are 1b still cannot.

Hot Docs whilst listing all the vax clinics doesn't specify which vax. I can call each one but I was hoping to not have to

I was told today that Monash has Pfizer shots but they are reserved for 2nd round shots & staff.

There is not much stock in the country of Pfizer and those whom need to be vaccinated should consider AZ and follow their doctors advice

I won't say the trip to Geelong was convenient for me, at a six hour round trip. I had all of the documentation from my specialist but no one even asked to look at it!

Pfizer is being only given to 1A people now as the supply is so short.

All the hubs and GP places around here are giving AZ to the over 50's who are 1B and over. All the doctors and staff at our GP rooms had AZ too.

My DD even missed out on Pfizer at her hospital workplace and she has cared for extremely ill COVID patients.

I am not sure the time frame but I know there are more Pfizer ordered from overseas, I did hear that it will be much later in the year.
