Has Anyone On Here Had Covid?

I know of a few who have had it in the UK, felt unwell, all recovered with a few who had lingering symptoms of no smell or taste.

The sole person in Aus I know had tested positive but never developed any clinical symptoms. They came back positive in routine hospital testing, most likely picked up during hospital stay, and stayed in hospital until returned a negative test.

DH’s elderly aunt in the Uk caught it off a health care worker at home when her husband was dying. She died a few days later. A colleague at work’s teenage son had it- still unexplained where from and they isolated properly and none of the family caught it. He said it was like a mild cold. Another colleagues daughter is a nurse, caught it and spread to her husband and baby. Said they were very fatigued, but baby fine. Colleague of DH’s baby caught it at childcare in the northern suburbs. Again, barely Ill. It really does seem that children get a much milder case. I had the flu from hell last Feb, caught from DH who had a work conference Sydney. I still suspect that was covid. I was sick as a dog, and was waking up at night short of breath. Had asthma for months afterwards. This was before you could get tested.

DH got back from overseas (at a conference where people caught covid), and had a mild cold. He couldn’t get a test because he didn’t have a sore throat. I’m sure he did probably just have a mild cold, no one else got sick, but I suppose we will never know.

My great aunt died of Covid aged 80 and a family friend died from Covid as well.

I’m another who was very sick early last year. It started with my son who was sick for two weeks. Then I got it and my daughter started feeling ill three days after I did. We were sick in bed for over three weeks with Covid symptoms and were diagnosed with community acquired pneumonia.

No one ever tested us because they were only testing people who had been overseas Or who had been in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid. After five visits to the GP (who wouldn’t come near me or touch me, I had to take my own obs) she told me that she’s positive we had Covid but couldn’t test us. Even taking my son to ED didn’t get him tested.

The three of us have never been so sick in all of our lives and it took months to recover from whatever it was we had.

^maybe he could get tested for antibodies to COVID?

I’m sure he could, but not much point really, just to satisfy curiosity.

A friend in the US had it a few months ago, she was sick for a week or 2(probably closer to 2) but has recovered well since. It's been maybe 4 months since she had it.

She's now vaccinated which I'm very glad about!

I know at least 8 people off the top of my head. Probably more if I think about it. Some had minimal symptoms. Some moderate. One spent 3 months in ICU and still recovering. Four have "long haul" symptoms. A couple had it in early 2020. They are still struggling to walk to the local shop and sleep about 18hrs a day. Pre covid they were very young for their mid seventies (travelled 6montjs of the year including hiking Mt Kilimanjaro in 2018).

Like others I strongly suspect I had it or a very similar virus before testing was available. My one friend tested positive after 5-ish wks because her GP broke the rules and tested her despite Covid allegedly not being in the community in Australia at the time. Friend hadn't travelled or had contact with anyone who travelled.

Nope and don't know anyone who has

Dp swears the cold he had upon returning from Melbourne in late 2019 was possibly it but I doubt it. Try a bad cold with side of man flu

Me and dd didnt get it and with what we know, by rights it should have gone around dd school, our town of 1000, many elderly at that, the in-laws.

Same. Caught a really bad bug back in early January 2020. My SIL was sick at he same time (blames sitting in emergency with my brother and his sore neck), and neither of us can remember ever being so sick. I've definitely never had such high temps that lasted so long before, and was totally exhausted for weeks (spent a couple of days with 18 to 20 hours of sleep). I also vividly remember the interviews with the whistle blower from his hospital bed when I went back to the doctor after a dose of antibiotics, so the timing wasn't right, and it was weeks before the recommendation to self isolate if you where returning from China. Took me months to mostly recover, and I still have the post viral asthma diagnosis.

Same! Late December 2019 (over Christmas), early 2020 for me. I was so sick. In hindsight the illness had all the hallmarks of Covid, including getting worse around the 7-10 day mark. I remember my dismay because that doesn't usually happen! Worst cough I've ever had, antibiotics didn't work, prolonged loss of taste and smell and all up I was sick for nearly a month. I did some digging and some sources claim that Covid was around as early as October 2019, although mainly in Europe. Quite a few people reporting similar illnesses in late 2019/early 2020. :ninja: I find it fascinating. I guess we'll never know for sure.

Other than that, a couple of online friends have had it. One is now dealing with Long Covid, which sounds absolutely miserable.

Friend in UK who is a teacher and her SO and their kids got it last year. Fairly mild for them. Now twice weekly testing to be all clear to continue teaching.

I’m going into week 3 of RSV (tested twice to be sure as first test was too early for anything to show up but I’ve been masked up the whole time including around my family) caught from DD3 before she was really symptomatic as she was masked from first sign. My coughing is just now stopping and my oxygen was down to 84% mid worst coughing day. I can imagine how scary covid after it I was relating about the pins and needles on my upper chest moving to my back and down my arms during coughing and being dismissed to go home and ‘rest’ was eye opening I already felt bad about the poor scared people sent home because they weren’t ‘bad enough’ to need to be in hospital.

I haven't had it, and no one in my immediate circle has had it. My family's housekeeper back in India got it; sadly, she died. She was much loved by my dad and my sister, who knew her well.

My cousin and uncle in England are terrified. They don't leave the house. As of a few months ago, four people in their social circle had died of covid. With a population of 56 million, and 3.8 million cases so far, 1 in 15 people in England have caught it. That's messed up.

And they're the ones we know about. I know testing is far more accessible now, but in their first wave, it was damn near impossible to be tested unless you fitted specific strict criteria - plus all of those asymptomatic people. With our desire here to identify every contact, and occasionally finding them (as per Brisbane), imagine how much more often that's happening in a country like the UK.

A friend of mine had something that really knocked her around in Jan 2020 too. She was so ill, it took her 2 months to be back to mostly normal and even now asthma is bothering her.

I also forgot my mum’s closest friend lost her dad to Covid, he was in a nursing home in Melbourne.

My sister returned from the USA in January 2020 with a wog that wouldn't let her go - she kept getting pneumonia but her life is so very busy she soldiered on as best she could.

She often thinks that she must have had it - she did get a test at some point that said no - I think not given how contagious it is and how many people that she had contact with in those weeks.

I'm not sure - I was quite sick with a bug I picked up on the flight back from Ireland in January 2020 and went to the GP about it, but at that time they were only testing people who had been in China/Hong Kong, and we transited through Dubai. I was absolutely bedridden for a few days and lethargic for a while later on but neither DH or DD seems to have had anything, so who knows?

I've had a friend die from it in the UK, and another friends parents caught it in Germany, his father died but his mother recovered.

My GP said there was an awful lot of influenza A going around in Jan 2020. Of course they couldn't test people randomly for Covid but they could test for Flu A, and it was usually that.

An employee just tested positive overseas with it. Thankfully mild symptoms.

I was another who was sick in early 2020! It went through my entire family - started with my ex's wife's mum, who was hospitalized with pneumonia that wasn't responding to treatment. She ended up in ICU! She is an incredibly fit lady so rocked everyone. Thankfully she recovered although I think with lingering symptoms.

Then Ex, his wife and baby got it. Then my boys got it and gave it to me, DP & DD.

We all had different symptoms and none of us had been overseas 🤷‍♀️

Nope I haven't and don't know anyone either.

I do wonder about the weird cold things DP and I had in March last year just before lock down happened. He was SICK, fevers, the works, but I think his was a case of being really run down after losing his dad and the emotional toll it had taken on him.

My cold was just weird, I didn't feel too bad but I had days of pounding headaches I couldn't shake and otherwise felt ok, but I did lose my smell for a few days (but my nose wasn't overly blocked or runny.).

It was probably just your run of the mill little cold as I recovered quite well and haven't been sick since. Who knows really, we were both working in the CBD and commuting on a daily basis by train at that point.

No, I haven't had it and don't know anyone who has. Which, now I think about it, surprises me because I have a lot of relatives and friends overseas.

I don’t know anyone for sure but there are suspicions. My oldest friend in the UK may have had it back in March, she was very unwell for 10 days with the symptoms but could not qualify for a test as she hadn’t gone overseas. Her house all self isolated anyway.

My cousin also in the UK who was maybe 58 died last year after experiencing a respiratory illness but again not clear if it was Covid. He has had underlying issues all his life.

An uncle in the West Indies may have also had it when he died last year.

I suspect the number of undiagnosed cases around the world is quite significant.

Absolutely - I know one friend in Ireland who caught it last year, was eventually allowed to get a test when he was mostly over it. The test came back positive, but they didn't even attempt to do contact tracing until about 6 weeks later, so he absolutely could have passed it onto someone who may never have realised. And he was not an isolated case.

4 people in my immediate family had it (one hospitalised) and several friends. None of these were in Aus though. One friend of mine has a relative who has been in an induced coma now for 2 months. They still don't know if he'll wake up.

Neighbours (about 5 houses away) were on the ruby princess and got it. Older couple, one of them ended up hospitalised for a short time.

It would be interesting for those have the question mark around maybe having had it early on but not qualifying for testing to get serology done at some point. I’m sure that’s not the priority right now, but it would be a very interesting study.

January 2020 my teens visited with their dad in Asia and within a week of returning we were all so sick, with what we thought was either the flu or a bad virus. I could barely breathe for weeks and thought it was my asthma playing up. Considered going to ER but went to gp where I asked about whether it could “be that virus from overseas I’ve read about”. She said oh no it’s just flu or virus and this was long before local testing and concerns. I reckon it may have been Covid but will never know.

Kids flight though upon landing was held up on tarmac whilst people in white hazmat suits came on board and proceeded to escort one person off the plane. When I heard that I thought to myself this is not looking good.
